3 Crusaders Score Two Goals in 12-8 Win

BELMONT, N.C. - Collin Grippo scored twice and caused two turnovers, and the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season, a 12-8 victory over Montevallo.  The Abbey is now 1-2.  Montevallo now has a 1-3 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo scored early in the first and second quarters to take a 5-0 lead.  From there, it was all Abbey.  Grippo got The Abbey on the board 6:18 in the quarter, and the Falcons led 5-1 at halftime
  • At the 7:06 mark of the third, Austin Hasen scored the first of 10 straight Crusader goals.  Jack Pigott scored twice in a 1:18 span.  Hunter Duford and Nick Deloriers each scored a man-up goal in the final minute of the period, and the Crusaders led 8-6 heading into the final period
  • Luke Spanier got the scoring started in the fourth.  Grippo found the back of the net at the 6:51 mark to make it a 11-6 Abbey lead.  After two Falcon goals, Noah Sexton scored on a pass from Noah Haas in the final two minutes to wrap up the 12-8 victory
  • On the day, Duford, Grippo, and Pigott each scored twice.  Grippo also caused two turnovers
  • Spanier scored a goal and handed out three assists
  • Brady Smith won 10 of his 14 faceoffs.  Bryce Gifford made 12 saves in goal
