NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Abigail Kane scored her first career goal, but Newberry posted a 4-1 win over Belmont Abbey in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey League action Tuesday afternoon.

With the decision, the Crusaders fall to 2-1 on the season, while Newberry improves to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a scoreless first quarter, Newberry struck for two in the second, including on just 56 seconds before halftime.
• The Wolves increased the lead to 3-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining before Kane scored unassisted with 4:31 remaining.
• Newberry held a 12-9 advantage in shots and 7-3 in penalty corners.
• Julianna Smith made three saves.
