BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey had its second-best shooting half of the season after intermission and placed five players reached double figures, allowing the Crusaders to hold off Chowan Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at the Wheeler Center. Mario Lacy tallied a season-high 18 points on a perfect shooting night to lead The Abbey.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 12-4 overall and 10-3 in league play, while the Hawks fall to 3-6, 3-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LJ McCoy scored 16 points, Quest Aldridge 13, Sean Halloran 11 and Chandler Baker 10 to account for 68 of the team's 85 points.
- Lacy made all eight of his field-goal attempts and both free throws in the contest.
- Malik Tucker grabbed a career-hight nine rebounds, while Aldridge added seven boards and a career-high-tying eight assists.
- The Crusaders shot 15 of 24 after intermission (62.5 percent). They also connected on 17 of 22 free throws in the period, including 10 of 11 in the final 3:04.
- The teams went to the locker room tied at 35, and were later tied at 45 and 49. With BAC ahead 54-52 midway through the second, McCoy hit a three that started an 11-2 run to create separation.
- From there, the Hawks could never get closer than a five-point deficit.
- The Crusaders have had five players in double figures two other times this season.
- Belmont Abbey held a 33-5 advantage in bench scoring and had a season-low 10 turnovers.
