WILSON, N. C. -- Belmont Abbey scored the first 14 points of the game and four players topped double figures in scoring as the Crusaders earned a 72-63 win over Barton Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolina's men's basketball action.
The quick start, the longest scoring surge of the season, came in the first 5:06 of the contest. After missing its first three shots, The Abbey (5-3, 3-1) hit six of the next eight attempts and never trailed the Bulldogs (3-4, 1-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mario Lacy, Jr., led the team with both 15 points and eight rebounds.
- Ryan Maslow and Prince Davies tallied 11 points each while Sean Halloran chipped in 10.
- Maslow added seven rebounds and three blocks, both career-highs.
- The Crusader defense limited Barton to just 38.1 percent shooting. It helped overcome a 44.8 percent Abbey effort, snapped a five-game run over 51 percent.
- For the sixth time this year, Belmont Abbey won the battle of the boards, 41-39.
