Kelli Thomas posted a double-double, but the Belmont Abbey women's basketball suffered a 65-59 setback this evening at Mount Olive. The Abbey now stands at 3-3 on the season, with a 1-1 Conference Carolinas record. The Trojans are now 4-0, with a 3-0 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was largely defensive, with neither team reaching the 10-point mark until just under two minutes to play. UMO led 13-9 when the quarter expired
- Jo Snow made made two 3-point shots to start the second quarter for The Abbey
- Later in the period, Thomas scored four points to keep the Crusaders within three points, though Mount Olive held a 27-23 lead at halftime
- Midway through the third, Belmont Abbey went on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 35. Thomas and Alexis Schulz scored the last nine Abbey points of the quarter, and the teams were tied at 38 heading into the final period
- Early in the fourth, it was Brittany Autry who scored seven of the team's first nine points of the quarter. She helped the Crusaders to a 47-44 lead early in the period
- Snow scored the last seven points of the game for BAC, but the Crusaders lost a hard-fought 65-59 decision
- On the night, Snow's 17 points were tied for the game-high. Thomas earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds
- Autry added 11 points and seven boards
