BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team erased a fourth-quarter deficit and rallied in overtime to pull away for a 74-66 victory over Emmanuel Saturday in Conference Carolinas play at the Wheeler Center.
Five Crusaders finished in double figures scoring led by
Taylor Stelley. Stelley finished with 16 points, including a jump shot as time expired at the end of regulation to tie the game at 56-56. The Crusaders kept the momentum going by outscoring the Lady Lions 18-10 in overtime.
Belmont Abbey moves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play while Emmanuel is now 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. It is the third victory in the last four games for the Crusaders.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started as a defensive battle early with Emmanuel taking an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Crusaders responded with a strong 17-4 run over the final 7:26 of the first half to take and build a 27-20 halftime advantage. Peyton Nation provided a spark off the bench with seven points in the first half to lead the Crusaders. She finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
- Brittany Autry recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- Alexis Schulz and Jo Snow accounted for 14 of the 18 points in overtime for the Crusaders.
- Snow finished with 14 points overall, including four 3-pointers. Schulz had 12 points for The Abbey.
- Belmont Abbey shot 60.9% from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime to come away with the victory.
