BRISTOL, Tenn. -
Brittany Autry earned her second straight double-double, though the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team lost a 62-58 contest at King this afternoon. The setback puts The Abbey at 5-4 on the season, with a 3-2 conference mark. King is now 7-2 overall, and 6-1 on Conference Carolinas play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey played strong in the opening quarter, building a six-point lead midway through the period, and 15-7 lead when the quarter expired. Kelli Thomas scored the last four points of the period
- Autry helped The Abbey increase its lead to 10 early in the second. King tied the game at 20 midway through the quarter, and held a 33-29 lead at halftime
- The Crusaders tied the game at 33 with 2:14 into the third. From there, Spivey made a layup at the buzzer to keep the Crusaders within nine at 44-35 heading into the final period
- Belmont Abbey kept it close throughout the fourth, but King escaped with the 62-58 win. Autry and Spivey combined for 14 points in the fourth quarter
- On the day, Autry finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, her second straight game with a double-double. Spivey scored 13 points and pulled down 12 boards. She now has three double-doubles this season
