Logan Parry broke a scoreless tie early in the second half and
Goose Andrews added her 11th goal of the season, leading fifth-seeded Belmont Abbey to a 2-0 win over Emmanuel in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
With the win, the Crusaders (8-8-1) advance to a Saturday quarterfinal at No. 4 seed Lees-McRae. The Lions finish the season at 5-11-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played the first 45 minutes without a goal.
- After a foul near the corner, Parry headed in the free kick from Cassidy Calhoun just 7:21 into the second period.
- Goose Andrews doubled the lead less than six minutes later after taking a breakaway pass from Callen Johnson.
- Belmont Abbey held a 12-11 shots advantage in shots despite Emmanuel taking the first seven attempts of the game. The Lions kept a 5-4 margin in shots on goal,
- The Crusaders took six of the game's eight corner kicks.
- Lauryn Harding made five saves in goal for the Crusaders, while counterpart, Olivia Weider, stopped two shots.
