NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -
Jo Snow scored 15 points, including 10-for-10 from the free throw line as the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team defeated Division I opponent Charleston Southern 56-48 this evening. The game was an exhibition for Belmont Abbey, and a regular season contest for CSU, which dipped to 0-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusader defense came out strong, holding the Buccaneers to just two points in the opening five minutes of the game. CSU led 11-8 at the end of the opening quarter
- Brittany Autry scored five straight points to open the second quarter, and put The Abbey in front 13-11. She scored 11 in the quarter, and the Crusaders held a 27-23 lead at halftime
- In the third, it was Snow scoring four straight to open the quarter, and the defense holding Charleston Southern scoreless for the first five minutes of the period
- The Abbey led 39-32 heading into the final period
- The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth. Keyanna Spivey provided the highlight for BAC by scoring five points in a 41-second span midway through the period, giving The Abbey an 11-point lead, its largest of the night
- A free throw by Spivey with seven seconds remaining helped Belmont Abbey wrap up the 56-48 victory
- On the night, Spivey was the game's leading scorer, with 17 points
- Snow added 15 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and registered seven rebounds and two steals
- Kelli Thomas' 11 rebounds tied for the game's high. She also blocked three shots
