Abbey Shuts Out Queens in Quarterfinals

CLOVER, S.C. - Casey Etter scored the game winner of a 2-0 victory for the Belmont Abbey Field Hockey team this afternoon at Field Day Park in Clover, S.C.  The game was played in Clover so it could be played on turf.  With the victory, The Abbey improves to 11-7 on the season, while Queens moves to 7-11.  It is the first victory in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas tournament in program history. The Crusaders last appeared in the Conference semifinals in 2019. The team also qualified in 2018 when the tournament field was four teams. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Belmont Abbey took two shots in the opening quarter, which ended in a 0-0 score
  • It took Etter less than three minutes into the overtime period to get BAC on the board
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the quarter, Etter set up Gianna Conti for a goal and a 2-0 Crusader lead at halftime
  • In the third, the offense kept Queens on its heels, taking five shots, while the defense did not give up a shot in the quarter
  • The defense also held the Royals scoreless in the fourth to wrap up the 2-0 win
  • On the day, Etter was the Crusaders' leader, with a goal, and assist and a game-high four shots
  • Chloe Parker made four saves in goal

Belmont Abbey will face the No. 2 seed Limestone on Friday, November 5 at 2 p.m. at Fulp Field at Converse.
