Moore Scores in Season Finale for Crusaders

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Samantha Moore scored her second goal of the season but a pair of third-quarter goals sent No. 3 seed Belmont Abbey to a 2-1 defeat to No. 2 seed Limestone Friday in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Tournament Friday at Fulp Field at Converse University.

The Crusaders closed their season with a program-best 11-8 record. The Saints moved to 9-7 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Belmont Abbey set the pace on offense early with three shots in the first quarter.
  • Both the Crusaders and Saints were scoreless in the first half.
  • Limestone got on the board first with a goal in the first three minutes of the second half.
  • Belmont Abbey pulled even with Moore's goal with 4:16 left in the third quarter. Meadoe Harrell-Alvarez was credited with her second assist.
  • The Saints pulled ahead with a goal with 1:15 left in the quarter.
  • The Crusaders finished with a season-high 16 penalty corners in the game.
  • Jessica Rybicki led Belmont Abbey with four shots.
  • Following the game, Gianna Conti, Casey Etter, Isabella Grasso and Chloe Parker were all recognized during a ceremony honoring the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas All-Conference team.
TOURNAMENT UPDATE
  • Jessica Rybicki was named to the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team following the conclusion of Sunday's championship game.
