NEWBERRY, S.C. Gianna Conti tied the school record for most goals in a single season Tuesday but it was Newberry who came away with a 4-1 victory over the Belmont Abbey field hockey team Tuesday in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action. Both teams moved to 6-4 overall. The Crusaders are now 4-3 in league play while the Wolves moved to 3-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Conti gave Belmont Abbey a 1-0 lead with 9:27 left in the first quarter with her 10th goal of the season. The 10 goals match the single-season school record shared by Tyla Goodsell-Matthews and Kayley Williams from the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively.
• The Wolves pulled even at 1-1 with a goal at the 11:50 mark of the second quarter.
• Belmont Abbey finished with 13 shots for the game and held a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
• Kiera Lyons led The Abbey with three shots on goal.
• After taking a 2-1 lead in the third quarter, Newberry's Carly Ellis scored two goals in the fourth quarter to complete a hat trick.
