Conti Sets New Single-Season Scoring Record

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Gianna Conti set a new school record for most goals scored in a single season against Queens Tuesday. However, it was the Royals who came away with the 6-1 victory over the Crusaders in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play at Bessant Field. Belmont Abbey moves to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in league play. Queens is now 4-8 overall and 3-6 in the SACC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Conti scored her 11th goal of the season with 11:29 left in the first quarter on a rebound off a shot from Casey Etter.
  • Conti passes the 10 goals scored Tyla Goodsell-Matthews and Kayley Williams from the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively.
  • The Royals pulled even at 1-1 with a goal just over a minute after the Crusaders got on the board. Queens later added a second goal in the first quarter.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 12 penalty corners, including four in the span of 1:39 in the first quarter.
  • Queens added a goal in the second quarter and added three more in the second half.
  • Isabella Grasso finished with a game-high six shots to lead Belmont Abbey while Etter added four more to her total. Both finished with three shots on goal.
  • Alexandra Yancey, Gabbi Trauernicht, and Allyson Clark all made appearances in their first collegiate game for the Crusaders.
