Etter Scores In Second Straight Game for Crusaders

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Casey Etter scored a goal off a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter for the Belmont Abbey field hockey team Tuesday against Converse. However, it was Converse who came away with a 3-1 victory Tuesday in a matchup of two of the top teams in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play at Fulp Field. The Crusaders moved to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play while the Valkyries are now 10-5 and 8-3 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Converse scored twice in the first quarter to build an early lead.
  • Etter and Gianna Conti accounted for the first two shots of the game for the Crusaders in the first half.
  • The Abbey drew three penalty corners in the third quarter.
  • Etter scored off a penalty stroke early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit It was the second time that Etter scored on a penalty stroke this season. The other occurrence came against Mount Olive on Sept. 29.
  • Chloe Parker finished with a career-high 11 saves.
  • Converse scored on a penalty stroke with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey plays against Queens at 6 p.m. Thursday as the two teams will face off for the third time this season. It will be played as a nonconference game.
  • The Crusaders' final game of the regular season will be at Coker at 1 p.m. Saturday.
