BELMONT, N.C. - 12 Crusaders scored and the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team rolled to a 80-44 win over Bluefield State this evening. The win puts The Abbey at 4-1 on the season. The Big Blues are now 0-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and never trailed after that
- Later in the quarter, Maria Kuhlman made back-to-back 3-point shots to put the Crusaders in front 14-7. BAC held a 21-9 lead at the end of the period
- Taylor Stelley scored five points in the first two minutes of the second to increase the margin to 27-9. Then the stubborn Abbey defense held the Big Blues scoreless for four minutes
- Seven Kuhlman points in a 41-second span gave BAC a 38-15 lead. At halftime, Belmont Abbey held a commanding 45-18 advantage
- The Abbey again went on a quick 5-0 run to start the third. A layup by Shelby Darden at the 3:00 mark gave the Crusaders their largest lead of the game at 63-25
- BAC led 65-33 heading into the final quarter
- Kelli Thomas got the scoring started for the Crusaders in the fourth. Alexis Schulz made a jumper before The Abbey held Bluefield State scoreless for the last three and a half minutes of the period. BAC took the 80-44 victory
- On the night, Kuhlman was the Crusaders' leading scorer with 19
- Allie Downing sccored nine and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. BAC did not allow a single BSC player to score more than 10 points
