BELMONT, N.C. - The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team scored 15 unanswered points in the second half, but the rally fell just short, and the Crusaders lost a 83-72 contest. The Abbey now stands at 4-2 on the season, and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Barton is now 2-0 overall, and 2-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded baskets early, and by the end of the opening period the Crusaders built a 21-15 lead
- Brittany Autry scored six points in the second, though The Abbey trailed 48-30 at halftime
- Belmont Abbey went on a 5-0 run to open the third. Later in the quarter, Allie Downing scored seven points in a minute to pull BAC to within 11 at 56-45
- Irelynn Davisson scored five points in the period, but Barton led 68-56 heading into the final quarter
- The Abbey stormed back early in the fourth, scoring six points in an 18-second span to pull within six. A 3-point basket by Maria Kuhlman at the 4:05 mark made it a 73-70 game
- From there, Barton went on to secure the 83-72 win
- On the night, Autry led the Crusaders with 22 points and seven rebounds
- Kuhlman finished with 16 points and nine boards. Downing scored 19 and grabbed six rebounds
