TIGERVILLE, S.C. --
Sean Halloran scored 19 points and
Charles Solomon posted his third career double-double, helping Belmont Abbey to a 62-59 victory over North Greenville in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Abbey improves to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in league play, while NGU has alternated losses and wins in all seven games this year to stand 3-4, 3-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Halloran hit seven of 11 field goals attempts, including three of four from behind the arc, plus two free throws to pass the 800-point mark for his career (818). He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
- Quest Aldridge chipped in 14 points, a career-high eight rebounds and four assists.
- Solomon, earning his first start of the season, tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds in a career-high-tying 30 minutes.
- Chandler Baker also grabbed 10 boards, while adding eight points.
- The visitors shot just 44.6 percent from the field, tying their season low, but held NGU to just 35.5 percent overall.
- The Abbey held a 42-31 rebounding advantage and had just 15 turnovers, one off its season best.
- A 9-0 run in the first half pushed an 11-9 advantage into double digits, 20-9. The lead was 35-28 at the break.
- NGU tied the game at 41-41 on a three-pointer with 13:48 to play, but Chandler Baker answered with a three 1:36 later and BAC never trailed again.
- The hosts closed to within two, 61-59 with 17 seconds left, then missed a game-tying three-point attempt with three seconds left.
- The Abbey played the game without three starters due to injury and contact-tracing protocols.
