BELMONT, N.C. --
Quest Aldridge scored a career-high 31 points and forced overtime with a three-pointer with 6.9 seconds remaining, leading Belmont Abbey to a thrilling 93-91 victory over King Thursday night at the Wheeler Center. The Crusaders trailed by three on three occasions in the final minute of regulation and were behind by two twice in overtime before rallying.
Charles Solomon broke a 90-90 tie with an offensive rebound and conventional three-point play with 33 seconds remaining for the deciding points.
With the win, The Abbey improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Tornado fall to 2-8, 1-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Aldridge hit 14 of 18 from the field overall, including three-of-six three-pointers. The 14 makes tied for fifth most in school history, just one shy of the record. His 31 points were the most by any Crusader this year.
- Chandler Baker added 16 points and four rebounds, while three others -- Prince Davies (13), LJ McCoy (12) and Solomon (10) -- reached double figures.
- Tyler Wilson led the rebounding effort with six, although the Crusaders were out-rebounded for just the third time this season (35-31). Solomon added five boards and the only blocked shot of the contest.
- The Crusaders shot 53.1 percent from the field overall, including 58.6 percent in the first half.
- Belmont Abbey converted 19 of 20 free throws in the contest.
- The 93 points were the highest of the season for The Abbey.
- The Crusaders played without four players, including two starters.
