Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Rebecca Luca scored three goals and handed out four assists, leading Belmont Abbey to an 11-10 comeback win against the number 2 seed Mount Olive Trojans this afternoon. The Abbey now holds a 14-5 record. Mount Olive also stands at 14-5.
Mount Olive was the first to score, but Rebecca Stromberg responded on a pass from Luca just 23 seconds later to tie the game at one. At the 25:20 mark, the Trojans took the lead, and again Luca set up Stromberg for the tying goal. Mount Olive took a 3-2 lead with 19:28 in the half, and Stromberg scored the tying goal yet again, this one off a pass from Kylie Eastman. Later in the half, the Trojans scored four goals in a row. However, Luca scored a goal with 21 seconds left in the half to get the Crusaders some momentum back. Mount Olive led 7-4 at halftime.
In the early minutes of the second half, Luca set up Stromberg for a score, then scored a goal of her own less than two minutes later. This pulled The Abbey to within a goal at 7-6. The Trojans scored two goals in a row to take a 9-6 lead with 18:47 left in the game.
It was all Abbey from there. Luca and Felsoci scored just 2:15 apart to make it a 9-8 game. Allison Cline scored on a pass from Angelina Perrone at the 7:34 mark to pull The Abbey to within a goal at 10-9. Felsoci notched the game at 10 with 2:56 to play, with momentum swinging the Crusaders' way. Then with 1:50 left in the contest, Eastman scored the game-winning goal, and Belmont Abbey wrapped up the 11-10 victory.
On the day, Luca scored three goals and dished out four assists, for a total of seven points to lead the Crusaders' offensive attack. Stromberg scored four times. Stromberg also had a defensive performance, causing three Mount Olive turnovers. Felsoci won six draw controls. Annie Brannon made six saves in goal.
Belmont Abbey will face the number 1 seed Limestone tomorrow at 5 p.m. for the Conference Carolinas Championship. The game will take place on the campus of North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C.
