Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Marin Felsoci scored five goals and handed out an assist, leading the Crusaders to a 20-9 victory in Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals action this afternoon over Converse College. The Abbey moves to 13-5 on the season. Converse is 6-12 on the year.
It only took Felsoci 1:05 into the contest to put The Abbey in front on a free position goal. From there, the Crusaders never trailed. Felsoci won the ensuing draw control, and just 17 seconds later, Rebecca Luca made it a 2-0 Abbey lead. Then Allison Cline handed out assists on back-to-back Crusader goals, first to Felsoci, then to Luca. A man-up goal by Yasmina Hernandez made it 5-0 with 23:19 in the half. The strong play by the defensive unit kept Converse off the board until the 19:42 mark, at which point, Belmont Abbey had built a 7-1 lead. It only took 35 seconds after the Valkyrie goal for Angelina Perrone to respond. With 6:54 to play Luca scored a man-down goal. Then with 55 seconds in the half, Hernandez capped off the scoring on a pass from Luca, and Belmont Abbey held a 13-2 lead at halftime. The Crusaders outshot the Valkyries 19-8 in the half.
Converse scored the first goal of the second half, but Belmont Abbey went on a 5-0 run over a span of 7:10, capped by a Kylie Eastman score, making it an 18-3 Crusader lead. Felsoci tallied the final Abbey goal of the afternoon at the 8:43 mark on a pass Katie Cavanaugh, and the Crusaders finished off the 20-9 victory.
On the day, Luca led The Abbey offensively with five goals and two assists, for a total of seven points. Felsoci scored five goals and handed out an assist, for a total of six points. Rebecca Stromberg scored four times. Felsoci also won a game-high nine draw controls. As a unit, Belmont Abbey outshot Converse 27-15.
Belmont Abbey will next face the number two seed Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas semifinals matchup, hosted by North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C. The game will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 4 p.m.
