Women's Lacrosse Falls to Mt. Olive 17-5

The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team fell to the Mt. Olive Trojans 17-5 this afternoon at Alumni Field.  The loss puts the Abbey at 6-4 on the season and 2-1 against Conference Carolinas opponents.  Mt. Olive improved to 8-3 on the season with a 4-0 mark in conference play.

Sophomore Rebecca Luca scored the first goal of the game with a shot just 1:24 into the game, giving the Crusaders some early momentum.  The Trojans scored the next four goals, but the Abbey responded as Caitlin Cook and Luca scored just 57 seconds apart from one another.  Luca then tied the game at four with a goal with 11:08 remaining in the first half.  Mt. Olive scored the next four goals and took an 8-4 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Caitlin Cook set up junior Katelin Glass for a goal to make it a 9-5 Mt. Olive lead.  Unfortunately for the Crusaders, it was their last goal of the game, as they suffered the 17-5 loss.

On the day, Luca led the Crusaders offensively with three goals on just five shots on goal.  Glass and Cook also scored for the Crusaders.  Sophomore Rebecca Stromberg paced the defense with nine draw controls.  Goalie Reilly Johnson earned nine saves.

Belmont Abbey will next welcome Pfeiffer on Thursday, March 31 at 3:30 PM for a Raise the Red game.
