Box Score BELMONT, NC – Working for the win isn't just about scoring goals on the field for the Belmont Abbey College women's lacrosse program, they've been giving back to the community all year long with a variety of different programs. Their donation of time has impacted many lives throughout the year as they helped with the Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, and the Mount Island Club Lacrosse.
The team worked on three different houses for local families in need through the Habitat for Humanity. They installed roofing, placed windows up, built door frames, assembled closets, and painted interior walls for the house.
They've assisted in coaching one of their largest supporters of the lacrosse program, Mount Island Club Lacrosse. For 10 weeks the team would go and coach practices. It gave our Crusaders the opportunity to share their knowledge and passion for lacrosse while being good role models for younger athletes in the community.
Volunteering their time to make signs and cheers for the Gaston Volcanoes of the Special Olympics, they were able to help lead the Volcanoes to a great afternoon of fun and glory! The Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the Special Olympics soccer game in the fall and our Crusaders stood behind their team flaunting the colors and cheers of the Volcanoes.
The team has hosted many different free clinics to local players to grow in their game. The last clinic of the year will be held on Saturday, March 19 just after the Crusaders take on Shepherd University at 12:00 PM.
On April 7, your Crusaders will be feeding the hungry as they host the #hashtaglunchbag event from 11:00AM-2:00PM in the Quad. The team will assemble bagged lunches for local shelters. Each lunch will have a sandwich, cookie, fruit, and drink; however, the most important item is a special note to each beneficiary.
Be sure to come out and support the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team the rest of the season and see how you can get involved in many of these volunteer opportunities as well!
