Women's Lacrosse Outscores St. Leo, 9-6

Belmont Abbey's women's lacrosse team won 9-6 this afternoon over visiting St. Leo.  The win improved the Abbey's record to 3-2 while St. Leo dipped to 0-2.

Jordan Hofmeister scored the first goal of the game off a free position just 5:19 into the game.  Later in the half, Katelin Glass and Rebecca Stromberg scored just 1:33 apart to put the Abbey in front 3-1.  With 2:06 to go MacKenzie Miller scored off a pass from Rebecca Luca to make it a 4-1 lead.  A Caitlin Cook goal with 1:10 remaining in the half put the Crusaders up 5-1, and at halftime. Belmont Abbey led 5-2.

In the second, Erin Kunkel and Glass scored just 2:02 apart to give the Abbey a 7-2 lead with 19:17 left in the game.  St. Leo scored three goals in the last nine minutes of the game, but the defense held up and the Abbey took a 9-6 victory.

Glass led the Crusaders' offense with three goals on just five shots.  Luca handed out three assists.  MacKenzie Miller and Kassie Easter paced the defense with two caused turnovers each and Miller also picked up three ground balls.  Goalie Reilly Johnson made nine saves.

The Abbey will next take the field Friday afternoon at 2:00 when it welcomes Wheeling Jesuit.
