Women's Lacrosse Bests Lenoir-Rhyne 13-10 As Connery, Glass & Miller All Net Three Goals

Katelin Glass, Katy Connery and MacKenzie Miller all scored three goals as the Crusaders women's lacrosse team powered past Lenoir-Rhyne 13-10 this afternoon at Alumni Field. Belmont Abbey moves to 7-6, while the Bears drop to 8-7.

Belmont Abbey never trailed after yielding the opening goal, as the Crusaders countered with a four goal burst to surge ahead 4-1. The Crusaders netted three more goals, the last by Shanin Darley that moved the lead to 7-4, and Lenoir-Rhyne closed the scoring with 10:06 left in the period to cut the Abbey's halftime lead to 7-4.

The Bears opened the second half with a goal, but the Crusaders answered with two straight, both from Miller, to give the Abbey a 9-5 lead.

L-R fired back with two unanswered goals, both free position strikes, but the Crusaders scored the next four unanswered, two from Connery and one each by Kassie Easter and Caitlin Cook, to put the game away as the lead rose to 13-7.

The Bears scored the last three goals, all in the final 1:47, to close the scoring.

Belmont Abbey outshot Lenoir-Rhyne 26-25 and also won the ground ball count by one at 28-27. Lenoir-Rhyne won the draw control count 17-14.

Connery, the national leader in ground balls, tied for the team-high with four, joining Miller, Easter and Molly Schaefer. Easter won three draw controls. Darley handed out three assists.

Reilly Johnson stopped 11 shots while the defense in front of her caused six turnovers, led by Alyssa Greco's two.
