Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse season came to an end this afternoon as the nationally tenth ranked and top seeded Limestone Saints earned a 15-11 win on its home field this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Limestone advances to Sunday's championship game with a record of 15-2, while the Crusaders season ends with a mark of 11-7.
Scoreless in the first 7:01, Limestone moved ahead 6-0 in a span of ten minutes before Rebecca Stromberg broke the string with a free position goal at the 11:59 mark.
The Saints countered by scoring the next three goals to stretch their lead to 9-1, but the Crusaders matched that total with three unanswered, two from Shanin Darley around a Kassie Easter goal. Limestone halted the momentum briefly with a goal, but Katelin Glass ended the half with a free position goal with 2:48 left to trim the Limestone lead to 10-5 at the half.
Belmont Abbey outscored the Saints 6-5 in the second half, as the Crusaders netted the final three goals of the game, all three from two seniors. Katy Connery scored the first two, and Darley scored her final collegiate goal with 1:47 left in the game.
Limestone outshot the Abbey 27-20 but the Crusaders won the draw control count 15-12, with Connery winning 11 of those.
In their final collegiate games, Darley led the Abbey with three goals, with Connery netting two and one assist. Fellow senior Molly Schaefer collected two ground balls, with senior defender Alyssa Greco scooping up two with one caused turnover.
