Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With 20-0 Rout Of Converse For Third Shutout In Program History

The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team posted its third shutout in program history and the first since 2009 as the Crusaders scored ten goals in each half to close the regular season with a dominating 20-0 win over Converse this afternoon on Senior Day. Belmont Abbey scored 20 goals on 30 shots as it improves to 10-6 overall and finishes with a Conference Carolinas record of 5-3. Converse drops to 9-8 overall and closes the league schedule with a record of 3-5.

Belmont Abbey recorded its first shutout win since February 14, 2009, a 21-0 season opening win at Erskine.

The Crusaders dominated from start to finish, as the Crusaders outshot the Valkyries 30-3 and held advantages in ground balls (30-8) and draw controls (19-3).

Converse finished the first half with just one shot, which came nearly 25 minutes into the game. The Valkyries finished with three shots, all saved by Reilly Johnson, including two free position attempts.

Katelin Glass led the Abbey with five goals on eight shots with two assists. Rebecca Luca added four goals on four shots with one assist. Kassie Easter added three goals on five shots. Katy Connery and Rebecca Stromberg both finished with two goals. Shanin Darley, Jordan Hofmeister, MacKenzie Miller and Erin Kunkel all added one goal.

Easter won eight draw controls with Connery adding three. Stromberg won four draw controls.

Easter led all players with six ground balls, with Molly Schaefer adding five. Easter and Emily Smith both led the way with two caused turnovers each.

Belmont Abbey will open the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at home on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined. Start time will be 4:00 p.m.

Seniors Connery, Darley, Schaefer and Alyssa Greco, along with senior manager Lauren Halk, were all honored prior to the game.
