Box Score The 15th-ranked Mount Olive women's lacrosse team outscored Belmont Abbey 4-1 in the second half as the Trojans erased a 5-4 halftime deficit to post an 8-6 victory this afternoon at Amon Field. Mount Olive improves to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Crusaders carried a 5-4 lead into halftime as they scored the final two goals of the half to overcome a 5-3 deficit. MacKenzie Miller netted her only goal of the game with 15:08 left, and Katy Connery gave the Crusaders the lead with exactly 5:00 to play with the final goal of the period, which gave Belmont Abey a 5-4 halftime lead.
The second half was scoreless for the first 10:53 until Katelin Glass increased the Abbey's lead to 6-4. That would be the final Crusaders goal of the game, however, as Mount Olive ripped off four unanswered goals, netting the equalizer with 16:07 to play and the winning goal nearly 15 minutes later, with 1:46 left. The Trojans added an insurance goal 40 seconds later, with 1:07 to play in the game.
Connery and Glass led the Crusaders with two goals each. Miller and Kassie Easter each scored once. Connery and Shanin Darley each had one assist.
Connery and Rebecca Stromberg each won three draw controls as both teams won eight on the afternoon. Mount Olive outshot the Crusaders 26-10. Reilly Johnson stopped 11 shots.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Saturday at Pfeiffer.
