Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team outshot Barton 26-1 as senior Meghan Philp gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead with eight seconds left in the first half with Cassidy Coutinho and Kate Hennessy adding two second half goals in a 3-0 defeat of the Bulldogs this afternoon at Alumni Field in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Belmont Abbey, the top seed in the tournament, wins for the 12th straight time as the record improves to 15-2-1, while Barton ends its season with a mark of 6-8-4.
The win means Alumni Field will be the site of the remainder of the Conference Carolinas Tournament, which includes both of Thursday's semifinal matches and Saturday's championship match. Alumni Field will be the site even if the Crusaders lose in the tournament.
Belmont Abbey will face Converse, a 3-2 double overtime winner over King, on Thursday.
The Crusaders dominated the match but could not find the net until eight seconds left in the first half, when Laura Shelton broke free down the left sideline and sent a cross to the center of the box where Philp headed home her team-leading 13th goal of the year. Shelton's assist, her 12th, leads Conference Carolinas.

Two more goals came in the second half to put the match away. Coutinho made it 2-0 in the 66th minute with her seventh goal of the year, taking a pass from Kooba Richard and firing a low shot that sailed through the legs of goalkeeper Kelsey Rothwell.
11 minutes later, Richard tacked on her second assist as she beat two defenders to the center of the box and sent a back pass to Hennessy, whose one time effort, low and to the left from the top of the box, sailed just inside the left post for her seventh goal of the season to punctuate the 3-0 win.
Belmont Abbey outshot Barton 26-1 and attempted all six corner kicks in the match.
Megan Bowen stopped one shot, an easy save from distance as she earned her ninth shutout.
