The third-ranked West Chester Golden Rams women's lacrosse
team scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back
to earn a 25-6 win over Belmont Abbey this afternoon at Alumni
Field. West Chester remains unbeaten at 2-0, while the Abbey's
record is evened at 4-4.
West Chester outshot the Abbey 45-14 as Lauren Glassey led the
way with five goals on six shots to go along with two assists.
Haley Nelson added four on five shots. Jaime Dolan and Brittany
Long added three, while Teresa Giunta scored twice. Eight other
players had one goal each.
Gina Colella led the Abbey with two goals, while Reese Gassie,
Katy Connery, Rebecca Diggs and Lauren DiChiara all scored once.
Colella and Ariel Walker both had one assist.
The Golden Rams scored the first seven goals in eight minutes
before DiChiara's strike halted the run, but West Chester scored
the next three to move its lead to 10-1. Colella's first goal broke
the string, but West Chester scored seven of the last eight goals
to take a 17-1 halftime lead.
Diggs opened the second half with a goal, and West Chester
scored the next two before Gassie netted her first goal. Both teams
traded goals, then West Chester ended the contest by scoring the
last five to close the game.
