Offensive Surge Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Lees-McRae 20-4 For Third-Straight Win

Laura Dowd and Elyse Mohn both scored four goals on five shots, and Lindsay Connolly scored three times and handed out five assists as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team posted its third-straight win with a 20-4 victory at Lees-McRae tonight. The win moves the Abbey's record above .500 at 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas, while Lees-McRae drops to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders scored the first 11 goals of the game in the first 12 minutes. After missing its first two shots, the Crusaders found the back of the net on four of its next six shots as the Abbey built a 15-2 halftime lead. The Crusaders scored 15 goals on 22 shots in the half. Mohn scored all four of her goals in the first half, while Dowd had three of her four in the opening 30 minutes.

Mohn and Dowd led all players with four goals. Connolly now has ten goals and eight assists in her last three games. Rebecca Diggs and Katy Connery both scored twice, while Lauren DiChiara, Molly Schaefer, Megan Patton, Ariel Walker and Meghan McSherry all had one each. McSherry's goal is the second of her career, with the first coming on Tuesday in the win over Catawba. Patton, Connery, Diggs and Shannin Darley each had one assist.

The defense caused six turnovers with Mohn leading the way with two. DiChiara, Patton, Tory Morgan and Alyssa Greco all had one each. Morgan made five saves in the cage.

Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 36-11 and held a 40-22 edge in ground balls. Mohn and Connolly's five led all players. Lees-McRae won the draw control statistic 17-8, as Dowd won seven of those for the Crusaders.
