The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team scored ten second half
goals on 13 shots after leading 6-1 at the half to earn a 16-5 win
at Saint Leo this evening. The win moves the Abbey's record to 3-2,
while Saint Leo drops to 1-5.
Belmont Abbey led 6-1 at the half. The Crusaders surrendered the
first goal of the game, but pulled away by scoring ten unanswered
goals to move the advantage to 10-1. Saint Leo scored the next two
goals, but the Abbey answered with three straight to increase the
lead to 13-3.
Two more Lions tallies made the score 13-5, but the Abbey scored
the final three goals of the game, coming in the final ten minutes,
to secure the win.
Nine different Crusaders scored goals as Emily Hudgins, Elyse
Mohn and Laura Dowd all scored three. Katy Connery added two, while
Rebecca Diggs, Megan Patton, Lauren DiChiara, Ariel Walker and
Molly Schaefer all scored one each. Hudgins handed out five
assists, while Diggs and Lindsay Connolly both had two. Mohn and
Patton had one each.
The Abbey outshot Saint Leo 29-21 and held a commanding 17-6
edge in draw controls. Patton won five draw controls and Dowd
corralled four. Tory Morgan made nine saves in the cage.
