Women's Lacrosse Upended At 15th-Ranked Florida Southern, 17-6

The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team fell at Florida Southern by a 17-6 score this afternoon in Lakeland, Florida. Florida Southern remains undefeated at 5-0, while the Abbey, playing its first game in 11 days, falls to 2-2.

Elyse Mohn and Laura Dowd both led the Abbey with two goals, while Rebecca Diggs and Lauren DiChiara had lone goals apiece. Lindsay Connolly had the only Crusader assist.

After a Dowd goal cut the Crusader deficit to 4-3, Florida Southern pulled away with four unanswered goals to extend its advantage to 8-3. Mohn closed the gap to 8-4 with exactly 4:00 to play in the half, but two Florida Southern goals in the last 26 seconds widened the lead to 10-4 at the half.

In the final 30 minutes Florida Southern outscored the Abbey 7-2 to provide the final margin as it earned a 17-6 win.

Goalkeeper Tory Morgan led the Abbey with five ground balls, and she made seven saves in the cage. Six different Crusaders had one caused turnover apiece. Dowd won seven draw controls to lead all players.
