The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with an 18-6 loss to the visiting Rollins College Tars this afternoon at Alumni Field. Rollins moves to 2-0 with the win.

Rollins outshot the Abbey 42-18 as Erica Pagliarulo led all players with four goals, while Sarah Ann Showell and Cat Kelley both added three.

Laura Dowd led the Abbey with three goals, while Lindsay Connolly, Elyse Mohn and Emily Hudgins all had one each. Connolly finished with two assists and Lauren DiChiara had one.

Rollins scored the first two goals of the game before Connolly struck for her first goal to halve the lead. After the two teams exchanged goals, the Tars pulled away with five unanswered tallies to pull ahead 8-2. A goal by Dowd stopped the bleeding, but Rollins scored twice in the final eight minutes to lead 10-4 at the half.

The Tars scored eight times in the second half, including the final five goals of the game, to pull away and win 18-6.
