Men's Basketball Edged By Barton, 91-87

The Belmont Abbey Men's basketball team suffered a 91-87 loss to Barton as their late rally fell short. Tyshawn Good hit a three pointer to draw the Crusaders within three at 90-87 with four seconds to play. Barton's Aaron Suggs was fouled with 1.4 seconds left and hit the first free throw and intentionally missed the second to seal the win. The loss drops the Abbey to 14-10 overall and 8-6 in Conference Carolinas. Barton improves to 15-9 overall and 7-7 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders outscored Barton 16-10 to start the game and take an early lead at the 12:55 mark. The Bulldogs responded with a 5-0 spurt to cut the Abbey advantage to 16-15 with 11:48 to play in the first half. The Crusaders answered with an 18-10 surge to push the advantage to 34-25, their largest of the game, with 6:30 remaining in the first half. Barton outscored the Abbey 16-7, capped off by an Aaron Brown layup at the buzzer, to tie the game at 41 at the half.

Jaren Haley's three pointer gave Barton its first lead of the game at 44-41 16 seconds into the second half. Justin Kuhlman hit a three to tie the game at 44 at the 19:10 mark. A 9-4 spurt gave Barton a 53-48 lead with 16:48 to play. The Crusaders responded with a 6-1 run to cut the deficit down 55-54 at the 15:04 mark. The Bulldogs outscored the Abbey 23-13 to take their largest lead of the game at 78-67 with 8:12 to play. A 12-5 surge, capped off by Jay Council's layup, cut the Abbey deficit to 82-79 with 1:36 to play. The Bulldogs pushed the advantage back to 88-80 with a 6-1 spurt with 23 seconds remaining. Kuhlman's jumper and Good's three pointer cut the deficit down to 90-87. Suggs' free throw sealed it with one point four seconds left as Barton took the 91-87 win.

Good's 31-point effort, two short of his career-high, led all scorers. Council chipped in 17 points for the Abbey. Kuhlman scored 16 points and Kyle Phillips had 15 for the Crusaders.

Gerald Boston led Barton with 28 points and seven assists. Keith Manley scored 16 and Haley chipped in 14 points.
