Women's Lacrosse Downed By Fourth-Ranked Limestone, 11-6

The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team led the fourth-ranked Limestone Saints 4-2 at the half, but the visitors outscored the Crusaders 9-2 in the final 30 minutes to earn an 11-6 win this afternoon at Alumni Field on Senior Day. Limestone remains unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 6-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 5-7 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas.

After nearly 14 minutes of scoreless play to begin the game, the Crusaders Emily Hudgins found the back of the net at the 16:28 mark to put the Abbey ahead. Four minutes later, Limestone evened the contest on a goal by Katie Farrell, but the Crusaders scored the next three unanswered goals, starting with a tally by Laura Dowd at the 8:56 mark, followed by a Susan Killeavy goal and another by Dowd to put the Abbey up 4-1. Racquel Prager closed the scoring at the 4:02 mark with a goal off of a feed from Chelsea Treat to cut the Abbey's lead to 4-2.

The second half saw the Saints begin the frame by scoring four goals on their first five shots, two by Prager and the others by Jessica Aquanno and Brittany Howard. An Elyse Mohn free position goal at the 23:25 mark, followed by a Megan Patton score two minutes later, deadlocked the game at six, but the Crusaders did not score again. Limestone scored the last five goals of the game in the final 15 minutes to seal the win.

Dowd led the Abbey with two goals. Killeavy, Mohn, Patton and Hudgins all had one. All six Abbey goals were unassisted.

Prager led the Saints with five goals. Sarah Oor had two. Treat, Aquanno, Farrell and Howard all tallied one each. Oor handed out three assists. Treat and Casey Wilcox had one each.
