Belmont Abbey senior Kristyn Kinsey scored a game-high six goals
on nine shots to lead the Crusaders women's lacrosse team past
Erskine 19-9 this afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup in
Due West, South Carolina. The Abbey moves to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in
Conference Carolinas, while Erskine falls to 1-10 overall and 1-3
in Conference Carolinas.
Along with Kinsey, Laura Dowd scored four goals, Susan Killeavy
poured in three, and Emily Hudgins and Elyse Mohn had two each.
Lauren Dichiara had one. Hudgins handed out two assists, with
Kinsey and Killeavy recording two and one, respectively.
Belmont Abbey outshot Erskine 37-23 and won the ground ball
battle 23-12.
The Crusaders scored the first four goals of the game before the
Flying Fleet would rally to tie the game at five after a free
position score by Mohn. The Abbey broke the tie by pulling away to
score the last five goals of the half, three by Kinsey, to carry a
10-5 lead into the break.
Kinsey and Dichiara opened the second half with goals to move
the advantage to 12-5, but those were answered by a pair from
Erskine. Killeavy and Hudgins found the back of the net two minutes
apart, and after an Erskine goal with 11:47 left, the Abbey pulled
away for good with five straight scores to open up a 19-8 lead.
Erskine scored a late tally to produce the final score.
Megan Patton led the Abbey with four draw control wins.
Goalkeeper Tory Morgan made nine saves and scooped up a game-high
seven ground balls.
