The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team scored the first seven
goals of the contest as ten different Crusaders found the back of
the net in an easy 18-6 win over the visiting Lees-McRae Lady
Bobcats this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Crusaders move to 2-5
overall and 2-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Lees-McRae drops to
2-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders dominated from start to finish, outshooting the
Lady Bobcats 39-15 as Morgan Cross and Laura Dowd both led the way
with three goals. Emily Hudgins, Susan Killeavy, Lindsay Connolly
and Rebecca Diggs all scored twice, while Elyse Mohn, Kristyn
Kinsey, Jessie Brushaber and Lauren Dichiara all scored once.
Cross, Hudgins, Rachael Schraeder and Megan Patton each had one
assist.
Cross scored three goals on four shots. Dowd scored on all three
of her shots, while Connolly, Diggs and Killeavy both scored goals
on their only two shots of the game. Mohn was one for one.
Emily Guenthner led the Lady Bobcats with three goals, while
Olivia Gudewich finished with two. Katelin Rooney had the other.
All six Lees-McRae goals were unassisted.
Defensively the Crusaders caused 16 turnovers with Mary
Frommling leading the way with three. Diggs, Connolly and Stacey
Foley each had two.
Goalkeeper Tory Morgan made six saves and led all players with
eight ground balls as the Crusaders won that battle by a 42-26
margin. Frommling and Dowd had six ground balls each.
