Women's Lacrosse Downed By East Stroudsburg, 15-11

The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting East Stroudsburg Warriors by a 15-11 score this afternoon at Alumni Field. East Stroudsburg moves to 2-2 in the victory, while the Abbey falls to 1-4.

The Crusaders outshot the Warriors 23-21, including 12-9 in the second half, as Laura Dowd and Elyse Mohn both led the Abbey with three goals. Susan Killeavy scored twice, while Kristyn Kinsey, Emily Hudgins and Lindsay Connolly all scored once. Kinsey had two assists.

East Stroudsburg was led by Molly O'Hara's four goals on five shots. Two of her goals were free position shots. Ali Green, Jamie Wesztergom and Laura Riegel all scored twice, while Michelle Mangiaruga, Maure Perrymond, Danielle Marceca, Sarah Ginn and Nicole Miller all found the back of the net once. Mangiaruga finished with four assists, while Green had three and O'Hara one.

Both teams recorded 28 ground balls and 14 draw controls apiece. East Stroudsburg won ten out of 14 draw controls in the first half, while the Abbey won ten of 14 in the second half. Dowd and Connolly both led the Crusaders with four draw control wins apiece, and Dowd's eight ground balls were a game-high. Wesztergom led the Warriors with six draw control wins and five ground balls.

Goalkeeper Tory Morgan made four saves, while Katie Zollo and Amanda Simms split time in the Warriors net, each making four saves.

The game began with Killeavy scoring the first goal of the contest at the 27:21 mark, but East Stroudsburg responded by scoring the next five goals by five different players to claim a lead it would never lose. Killeavy broke the string with another goal at the 12:39 mark, which was answered by a goal by Green. The Crusaders scored the next two to pull within 6-4,but East Stroudsburg scored two of the final three goals of the half to carry an 8-5 lead into the break.

In the second half the Warriors built their lead to as high as 13-7, but the Crusaders scored the last three goals of the game to cut the deficit to four, which was the final.
