    Belmont Abbey senior midfielder Laurie Jordan scored seven goals
as the Crusaders women's lacrosse team outscored Queens 9-4 in the
second half after holding a 7-2 halftime edge to up its winning
streak to two with a convincing 16-6 win over the Royals this
afternoon in the home finale. The Abbey moves to 6-8 overall and
4-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the Royals dip to 5-9 overall
and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas.
Jordan, one of six Abbey seniors playing for the final time at
Alumi Field, scored seven goals on 12 shots with one assist. She
also had six draw control wins, two ground balls and a caused
turnover. Susan Killeavy scored three goals on three shots, while
Brianna Dignan and Emily Hudgins both had two goals. Dignan totaled
four shots and Hudgins had three. Tara Chmil added a goal on her
only shot, and Amanda Jones had one goal on two shots. Dignan
posted four assists, while Lindsay Connolly had a pair. Laura Dowd
added another.
Brittany Philip and Kelley Duffey led Queens with two goals,
while Shannon Casey and Caitlin O'Rourke had lone goals apiece.
Belmont Abbey outshot Queens 33-27 as the Crusaders jumped ahead
4-0 in the first 15 minutes on a goal by Jones, two more from
Jordan and another by Chmil. Philip closed the Abbey lead to 4-1
with 13:45 left, but Jordan scored the next three goals in a span
of ten minutes, to move the lead to 7-1. Casey closed the scoring
in the first half with 45 seconds left.
The final 30 minutes was all Belmont Abbey, as it scored the
first four goals of the stanza in the first six minutes to extend
its lead to 11-2. Dignan started the stream of goals at the 29:26
mark, followed by one from Jordan less than two minutes later.
Killeavy ended the flurry with back-to-back goals 1:01 apart.
After a Queens goal, Killeavy got it right back with her third
goal of the day on a Dignan assist. O'Rourke responded 11 seconds
later to make the game 12-4, but the Crusaders answered with three
straight goals, one by Dignan and two by Hudgins to push the lead
to 15-4. Philip and Duffey goals sandwiched Jordan's final tally to
provide the winning margin.
The Abbey won the ground ball battle 20-19 as goalkeeper Natalie
Crenshaw collected six. She made 14 saves in the cage, including
stopping the first seven Queens shots. Connolly had two of the
Abbey's five caused turnovers.
