11 different players scored goals, including five by senior
attacker Laurie Jordan, as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team
opened the 2010 season with a convincing 23-2 win over Erskine this
afternoon. The Abbey moves to 1-0 overall and in conference, while
the Flying Fleet drop to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference
Carolinas.
The Abbey outshot Erskine 46-6 as Jordan scored five goals on
eight shots, to go along with four assists. Emily Hudgins, Tara
Chmil and Kristyn Kinsey all scored three times, while Brianna
Dignan and Elyse Mohn scored twice. Laura Dowd, Stacey Foley,
Rebecca Diggs, Lindsay Connolly and Amanda Jones all scored one
each.
Hudgins and Jordan both had four assists, while Dignan had
three, Chmil and Kinsey two each, while Dowd, Foley and Morgan
Cross all had one.
Belmont Abbey scored 13 first half goals, including ten in the
first ten minutes as it roared out to a 13-0 lead before Erskine
got on the board at the 27:11 mark of the second half as Lisa
Kmonicek scored the first of her two goals.
Erskine finished with 31 turnovers, 29 caused by the Abbey as
Jordan finished with five caused turnovers, while Jones totaled
four. Jordan led all players with five ground balls as the
Crusaders scooped up 42 on the afternoon to just 21 for
Erskine.
Natalie Crenshaw made just one save in the first half before
giving way to Hannah Oliverius for the final 30 minutes. Erskine
goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley made 11 saves for the Fleet.
