Women's Lacrosse Loses To Limestone In Conference CarolinasTournament Final, 12-6

The Limestone College women's lacrosse team won the Conference Carolinas tournament championship as the Lady Saints earned a 12-6 win over Belmont Abbey in the finals game on Sunday. Limestone, also the conference regular season champion, improves to 16-1 on the year as the Crusaders fall to 14-5 on the season.

Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) led Limestone's attack with four goals, while Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), and Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) each scored twice. Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) chipped in a goal and an assist. Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.) scored a goal and Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) tallied an assist. Wise and Ilott each recorded three draw controls. Ilott led Limestone with four ground balls. Albro picked up three ground balls. Goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) posted 15 saves for the Lady Saints.

Laurie Jordan (Davidsonville, Md.) and Shannon Farden (Oswego, N.Y.) had two goals apiece for Belmont Abbey. Samantha Hooker (Salisbury, Md.) and Kerri Gut (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) also scored. Tara Chmil (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Brianna Dignan (Nashua, N.H.) dished out assists. The Abbey's Amanda Jones (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada) posted a game-high four draw controls while Jordan led her team with three ground balls. Starting goalkeeper Kate Gavin (Pasadena, Md.) posted two saves in the first half. Sarah Wheat (Crofton, Md.) had three saves in the second period.

The Lady Saints built an 8-1 lead at halftime, but the Abbey held the 5-4 scoring advantage in the second period. Limestone outshot the Crusaders 29-25. The Lady Saints had 15 ground balls to the visitors' 10. The Crusaders won 11 of the game's 20 draw controls. The Abbey was 9-13 in clears while Limestone was 13-14. The Lady Saints scored three goals from eight free-position attempts while Belmont Abbey was 1-8. The All-Tournament Team was announced following today's game. Ilott was named Tournament MVP. Albro and Milchling joined Ilott on the All-Tournament team, along with Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y./St. Andrews), Caitlyn Ryan (Perth, Australia/Pfieffer), Jones, and Jordan.
