The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team earned its fourth win of
the year with an 18-11 win over East Stroudsburg this afternoon at
Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte. The Abbey improves to 4-2, while
East Stroudsburg falls to 0-2.
Shannon Farden led the Abbey with four goals, while Brianna
Dignan, Samantha Hooker and Laurie Jordan each had three. Kerri Gut
and Laura Dowd finished with a pair, while Tara Chmil had one.
Chmil led all players with three assists, while Farden had two.
Dignan, Gut, Hooker and Theresa Nolan all had one each.
Molly O'Hara led East Stroudsburg with four goals, while
Michelle Mangiaruga had three. Morgan Knowles had two, while
Christine Bradley and Jessica Curran both had one.
The Abbey never trailed as it outshot East Stroudsburg 32-25. It
built an 11-4 lead at the half as Dignan posted all three of her
goals in the opening 30 minutes. Both teams scored seven goals in
the second half.
Defensively, the Abbey caused ten of East Stroudsburg's 19
turnovers as Nolan and Amanda Jones led the way with three each.
Belmont Abbey scooped up 24 ground balls and held a 23-8 advantage
on draw controls, as Jones led the way with four ground balls to go
along with five draw control wins. Farden led all players with six
draw control wins, while Jordan posted five.
Kate Gavin made five saves in the net before giving way to Sarah
Wheat, who made one save in the final 8:36.
