Abbey women's lacrosse team upended the visiting Erskine Flying
Fleet 25-1 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey improves to
3-2 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas, while Erskine, playing
its first season of women's lacrosse, falls to 0-4 overall and in
Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey outshot the Fleet 48-1 as Emily Hudgins led the way
with four goals. Brianna Dignan, Meghan Darley, Laurie Jordan and
Kristyn Kinsey all had three. Shannon Farden scored twice, while
Morgan Cross, Samantha Hooker, Stephanie Schwartz, Michelle
Babcock, Stacey Foley, Amanda Jones and Kate Gavin all had one
each. Gavin's tally was the first of her career, as she is normally
the Lady Crusaders netminder. Cross posted four assists, while
Brianna Dignan and Theresa Nolan both had a pair. Tara Chmil,
Darley, Hooker and Hudgins all had one each.
Defensively, the Abbey caused 21 turnovers as Babcock posted
four, while Nolan had three. Babcock led the way with five ground
balls, while Nolan had four and posted six draw control wins as the
Abbey held a 23-4 advantage in the category.
