Eight different Belmont Abbey players scored goals as the Lady
Crusaders women's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in
Conference Carolinas with a convincing 23-8 win over the visiting
Lees-McRae Bobcats this afternoon. Lees-McRae falls to 0-1 overall
and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey never trailed and led by as many as 13 goals, outshot
the Bobcats 39-19 and held a 22-11 advantage in draw controls.
Defensively, the Lady Crusaders caused 11 of Lees-McRae's 17
turnovers as All-American defender Theresa Nolan led the way with
three.
Tara Chmil led a potent Abbey offense with six goals and three
assists, while Brianna Dignan and Laurie Jordan both had four
goals. Shannon Farden finished with three, while Samantha Hooker
and Megan Darley both had a pair. Laurie Dowd and Kerri Gut both
finished with one. Chmil and Dignan both had three assists, while
Jordan and Hooker both had a pair. Nolan had one.
Kate Gavin made two saves in the first half before giving way to
Sarah Wheat in the second half, who also had a pair of saves in the
final 30 minutes.
