Belmont Abbey junior attacker Shannon Farden led all players
with four goals and won seven draw controls as the Crusaders
defeated visiting Rollins 14-10 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The
Abbey improves its record to 9-6, while the Tars fall to 3-8. The
nine wins establishes a school record for most in the program's
three-year history, as it won eight games in each of its first two
seasons.
Farden scored four goals on five shots and converted both of her
free position attempts. She also recorded an assist, scopped up
three ground balls and won seven draw controls. Sophomore
midfielder Laurie Jordan scored three goals, while Tara Chmil and
Meghan Darley both had a pair. Brianna Dignan, Kerri Gut and
Samantha Hooker each had one goal. Dignan led the way with two
assists, while Chmil, Farden, Gut and Kristyn Kinsey each finished
with one.
Rollins was led by Courtney Bianculli and Lacy Goodwyn, who both
finished with three goals, while Liz Connelly had a pair to go
along with four assists.
Defensively, Dignan led the way with four ground balls and four
different players registered a caused turnover. Kate Gavin made
six saves in the net.
The Crusaders are back in action Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when it
hosts St. Andrews Presbyterian.
