Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 42-14 as 11 different players
tallied goals, led by freshman Laurie Jordan's six, as the
Crusaders women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the CVAC
with a convincing 20-1 win over Lees-McRae this afternoon at Alumni
Field. The Lady Bobcats fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the
CVAC.
The Abbey
never trailed as it scored the first three goals of the match, with
Shannon Farden opening the scoring just
1:24/> into the contest. Chrissy Stokes
followed with the first of her three goals 17 seconds later,
and Jordan/>/> made it 3-0 on a
free position shot.
Lees-McRae
would score at the 5:15/> mark to
close the gap to 3-1, but Samantha Hooker and Jordan would take
turns scoring the next four goals to widen the lead to 7-1. Theora
Canonica would stretch the lead to 8-1, and
Jordan/>/> closed the half with a pair of
goals to give the Abbey a 10-1 halftime lead.
The second
half was all Crusaders, as eight different players scored a goal.
Stokes and Brianna Dignan would score twice in the half, while
Jordan, Farden, Kerri Gut, Stephanie Schwartz, Theresa Nolan and
Meghan Darley all scored once as the Abbey won easily.
Five
different players recorded multi-goal games. Along with Jordan and
Stokes, Hooker, Farden and Nolan all scored twice. Jordan and Megan
Misencik registered two assists.
The Abbey
recorded 22 ground balls as Erin Knight led all players with four.
Jordan, Schwartz and Amanda Jones all had three. Jordan and Farden
led the way with two caused turnovers.
Kate Gavin
made three saves in 43 minutes before giving way to Sarah Popovich,
who collected four saves in the final
