Second_Half Barrage Leads Crusaders to 4-0 Win

BELMONT, N.C. — Belmont Abbey broke a scoreless tie at halftime with a four-goal barrage to earn a 4-0 victory over Shorter in Conference Carolinas men' soccer action Saturday afternoon. Marcos Frias found the net twice in a span of 2:08 to break the contest open.

With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 4-5-2 overall and 3-4-0 in Conference Carolinas play, while Shorter falls to 2-5-0 and 1-5-0 in league action. Jackson Bennett recorded the shutout with four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first half, Manel Rastrollo Gomez opened the scoring in the 49th minute, heading home a pass from Holland Miller for his first goal of the season.
  • Frias then scored twice in a span of just 2:08. His first came unassisted in the 59th minute before he added another in the 61st minute off an assist from Rastrollo Gomez.
  • Mark Soudir capped the scoring in the 88th minute, recording his first goal of the season. Soudir also put both of his shots on target.
  • Belmont Abbey controlled the attack with an 18-5 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in sho0ts on goal. The Crusaders also earned six corner kicks compared to two for the Hawks.
  • Jackson Bennett made four saves to preserve the shutout, the Crusaders' fourth of the season.
