BELMONT, N.C. -- Renata Bolado and Tyler Case both recorded a double-double for the second straight match, but Belmont Abbey dropped a 3-2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 16-14) decision to Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Friday night at the Wheeler Center.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in league play, while Mount Olive improves to 7-8, 3-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bolado finished with 19 kills and 14 digs, while Case added 16 kills and 21 digs. It was the seventh and fourth double-doubles, respectively, for the duo
- Lola Sultenfuss contributed 10 kills, and Taylor Marts hit .389 with a career-high-tying nine kills.
- Emma Youngblood recorded 53 assists, while Sheridan Young had a team-high 22 digs.
- The Crusaders also recorded a season-high 16 service aces, including six from Young and three each from Mallory Swain and Mary Grace Hogue. The team total tied for third-most all-time, while Young's rank tied for fourth all-time in a match.
- Belmont Abbey controlled the opening set, using a 10-4 stretch to turn a 13-13 tie into a 23-17 advantage before closing out the set 25-19.
- The Crusaders rallied from a 13-11 deficit in the second set, using a pair of Bolado service aces to build a 17-13 lead. Mount Olive battled back to tie the set at 24-all, but Belmont Abbey scored the final two points to win 26-24.
- Mount Olive answered by taking the third set 25-21. Belmont Abbey trailed 17-11 before cutting the deficit to 20-18, but the Trojans closed the set with three of the final four points.
- The fourth set featured another late Abbey rally. Belmont Abbey trailed 22-16 before scoring six straight points to tie the set at 22-all, but Mount Olive scored three of the final five points to force a fifth set.
- The Crusaders held an 11-8 lead in the deciding set before Mount Olive answered with a 4-0 run. Belmont Abbey fought back to tie the set at 14-all, but the Trojans scored the final two points to take the match 16-14.
