SUMTER, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's team has added another chapter to its historic run in the Conference Carolinas championship. The Crusaders rallied to win a fifth straight conference tournament title by defeated top-seeded Mount Olive 4-1 Saturday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
The win secures the automatic bid for the NCAA Division II National Championship for the fifth consecutive year. The Crusaders entered the tournament ranked eighth in the Southeast latest southeast regional rankings.
After losing the doubles points to the Trojans,
Ricard Novell,
Cameron Simpson,
Noelle Andrey Ampong and
Joel Lamotte all won in singles to clinch the championship. Lamotte's victory at No. 6 proved to be the championship clincher.
Belmont Abbey is now 23-17 on the season while Mount Olive is 14-5 and will await its postseason fate.
