Zach Puentes recorded his third double-double of the season, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-13) victory over No. 4 North Greenville in the semifinals of the Conference Carolina men's volleyball tournament Saturday afternoon,
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 19-5 overall and will play for a third straight tournament title and NCAA bid tomorrow. The Trailblazers end their season at 13-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey's top three hitters combined for 31 kills against no errors in 52 attempts (.596). Caden Day tallied 11 kills in a15 chances (.733), Zach Puentes had 11 kills in 21 tries (.524) and Logan Erickson registered 10 kills in 16 attempts (.625).
- As a team, the Crusaders had just nine errors against 49 kills in 92 attempts. After coming out of the gate slowly, The Abbey hit .667 and .533 in the second and third sets, respectively.
- Belmont Abbey saved four set points in the opener before winning three of the last four points.
- Puentes added 10 digs and a block assist for the double-double.
- Joseph Morris dished out 37 assists and had three digs. while adding three kills.
- Alejandro Leon was credited with eight digs from his libero position.
